HK45 Wins New Funding to Promote Hong Kong as a Seat of Arbitration

HK45 is pleased to announce that it is one of the beneficiaries of this year's Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball. While the key objective of the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball is to raise money for people in need, it also aims to promote Hong Kong as a leading seat for international arbitration. As such, a portion of the monies raised from the charity ball are donated to an organisation committed to promoting Hong Kong as a leading seat for international arbitration.

This year's event raised approximately HK$1.2 million of which HK$1 million will go to Watchdog, which provides early educational services and support to children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

The remaining HK$200,000 will go to HK45 and will be used to build upon its record of success by supporting two key initiatives: (i) HK45 Hong Kong Arbitration Roadshow; and (ii) expanding the quantity and quality of HK45's community and education events without charging participants.

Jun Bautista, a founding member and one of the co-chairs of HK45, says: "We are very grateful to the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball for their generous support. In the last five years, HK45 has organised many arbitration seminars and social events for young practitioners as well as publish a quarterly newsletter with a readership of more than 5,000 people. And we have many more exciting projects in the pipeline that will focus on practitioners and students from developing countries. The money from the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball will go a long way in supporting our vision."

The Secretary General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Chiann Bao, adds: "Community support towards initiatives such as HK45 is what makes Hong Kong’s arbitration community so unique. It is heart-warming to see our colleagues band together for the greater good of Hong Kong as well as for specific forward thinking grassroots endeavours like HK45. As one of the founding members of HK45, I can vouch for the drive of the committee organising HK45 projects and know that this generous funding will be put to good use."

The HKIAC's Chair, Teresa Cheng SC, says: "The leaders and members of HK45 are the future of the arbitration community in Asia. I am so pleased to watch HK45 go from strength to strength and can think of no more worthy cause to invest in - the next generation."
