The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) is seeking applications for the role of Secretary-General.
HKIAC is a leading international dispute resolution institution, renowned for its work in arbitration, mediation, adjudication and domain name dispute resolution. Its caseload is growing, as it handled more than 515 matters and 344 arbitration cases in 2022.
The Secretary-General is HKIAC’s principal officer, responsible for the administration of the centre, including the development of strategy, registration of cases, supervision of cases administered by HKIAC, promotion of the centre, cooperation with other arbitration institutions, oversight of HKIAC’s finances and staff matters.
The successful candidate will provide intellectual leadership in the field of international dispute resolution, one of the most dynamic areas of international law.
The Secretary-General is appointed by the HKIAC Council—the centre's governing body—on the nomination of the Chair of the Council.
A search committee has been formed to find suitable candidates for the position. The committee is chaired by David W. Rivkin (Co-Chair of HKIAC) and Rimsky Yuen (Co-Chair of HKIAC and former Secretary for Justice, Hong Kong SAR), and it also comprises Nils Eliasson (Vice Chair of the HKIAC), Ing Loong Yang, Briana Young (Chair of the Proceedings Committee), Catherine Mun (Chair of the Finance Committee) and Thomas Walsh (Chair of the Appointments Committee).
Dr Mariel Dimsey is currently serving as HKIAC’s Secretary-General and is retiring from the position.
