On 25 November 2011, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) joined hands with the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) to organise the “HKIAC-KCAB Mock Arbitration” in Seoul, Korea. The objective was to build perspective on the general procedures and conducts of an arbitral hearing, as well as to elucidate the interactions among counsel, arbitrators, witnesses and experts in such proceedings.

The workshop was a great success, with over 100 attendees, including in-house counsel and officers of Korean conglomerates. “The level of interest was significant, which is indicative of arbitration’s growth in Korea. If the past provides any indication of the future, the HKIAC anticipates this development to continue at a more rapid pace,” says James H. Chun, HKIAC Counsel.

We would like to extend our special thanks to the attorneys from Shin & Kim, Bae, Kim & Lee, Kim & Chang and Lee & Ko for their outstanding performance in the Mock Arbitration. We look forward to holding similar events in Korea in the near future.
