Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (“HKIAC”) is delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (“AIAC”) on 8 August 2024, during a Malaysian official delegation visit to Hong Kong led by Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

The MoU was signed by Ms Joanne Lau, Secretary-General of HKIAC and Datuk Almalena Sharmila Johan, the Chief Executive Officer of AIAC, and witnessed by Mr Rimsky Yuen, GBM, SC, JP, Co-Chair of HKIAC and Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan, Director of AIAC.  

HKIAC collaborates with arbitral institutions around the world on initiatives to promote arbitration as a preferred method of dispute resolution for cross border commercial disputes.  HKIAC and AIAC have a long-standing relationship and the signing of the MoU signifies a shared commitment by both institutions to deepen professional ties and strengthen cooperation.

Lau remarks, “This MoU provides a strong platform for HKIAC and AIAC to share knowledge, experience and ideas.  We look forward to working with the AIAC on the collaboration opportunities that this MoU will facilitate.”

Datuk Almalena expressed, "This MoU embodies the visions and mutual commitment of HKIAC and AIAC to promote arbitration and strengthen capacity-building initiatives, serving the best interests of the regional and global alternative dispute resolution community”.
