Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration, Oxford, UK

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ distinguished Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration is set to take place once again at Oxford University on the 17th of August this year.
First launched in 1995, the Diploma is internationally recognised attracting candidates from a number of jurisdictions, including Australia, Canada, England, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Scotland, Thailand and the USA.

The 5th FDI Moot Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds
HKIAC is pleased to be a supporting organisation of the 5th FDI Moot Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds.
The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) is holding the 5th FDI Moot Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds with Center for International Legal Studies (CILS) and Seoul National University School of Law.
Increasing international investment, the proliferation of international investment treaties and contracts have contributed to the development of international law that defines obligations between host States and foreign investors and refers to internationalized arbitration procedures for resolving related disputes. The FDI Moot addresses such investment disputes.
The 2017 FDI Moot case considers how Mercuria, a State faced with a “greyscale” epidemic, has treated a foreign investor, patent-holder of the active ingredient in an effective greyscale treatment, by first breaching a supply agreement, which was the basis for the investor’s production facility investments in Mercuria, and failing to enforce the consequent arbitration award and by then granting a compulsory license to a state-owned manufacturer.

Adjudication Short Course
HKIAC is pleased to be a supporting organisation of this event.
With the introduction of Adjudication in the proposed Security of Payment Legislation in Hong Kong. Adjudication is set to become the "first-tier" dispute resolution method in construction contracts. This short course will provide an overview of Adjudication, the Adjudication process and its strength and weakness in resolving commercial disputes. The laws relating to Adjudication, the applicable Adjudication Rules as well as the use of Adjudication in Hong Kong and overseas will also be discussed.

Risky business: political risk insurance in OBOR jurisdictions
HKIAC is pleased to host and support the International Law Lecture Series organised by CMS.
Investment in emerging markets along OBOR jurisdictions is risky, including within Asia. Some of the jurisdictions suffer from political instability, lack of security, regulation or infrastructure, the absence of a fair and impartial legal system, poor corporate governance and inconsistent adherence to the rule of law. These risks raise investment costs and may deter investment altogether. The World Bank Group, through its Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), has been navigating the complex world of political risk in Asia for decades, and has designed political risk insurance policies to hedge against these risks.Read more

Unbeknown to many accredited mediators in Hong Kong, different private sectors and institutional/special sectors have their own selection criteria in appointing a mediator.
