Matthew Gearing QC 當選新一屆 HKIAC 主席

香港國際仲裁中心（HKIAC）宣佈 Matthew Gearing QC 已當選下一屆的 HKIAC 主席。Gearing 先生將接替 HKIAC 現任主席鄭若驊女士，並于2017年上任。

鄭主席對 Gearing 先生的當選表示祝賀，並表示：“It is with great confidence that I will hand over the Chairmanship to Matt.  Matt has played a very important role at HKIAC and I cannot think of a better candidate.  He has my warmest support going forward and I have no doubt that he will ensure HKIAC remains an acclaimed powerhouse that serves its users worldwide and pioneers best practices that impact the way the world resolves disputes”。

Gearing 先生從2008年起開始擔任 HKIAC 理事會成員。他還是 HKIAC 執行委員會的成員、HKIAC 程序委員會主席。Gearing 先生對自己的當選談到：“It is a privilege and an honour to be elected Chair of the HKIAC.  To take over from Teresa will be no mean feat, as she has done a fantastic job seeing the HKIAC through to a new level of success over the past three years, with its fantastic staff, excellent rules and a healthily growing case load. Together with the support of my able Council members, I will strive to do justice to the role and its objectives, and in particular to ensure that the HKIAC and Hong Kong continue to have a prominent place on the arbitral globe”。

Gearing 先生位居香港，是 Allen & Overy 國際仲裁部的總負責人。Gearing 先生先于2000年至2003年在香港工作，於2008年重返香港。他在香港獲得出庭辯護事務律師資格，在英國獲得皇家御用大律師稱號，在 LCIA 亞太用戶理事會擔任副主席，並作為英國仲裁主流教科書 Russell on Arbitration 的主編之一。Gearing 先生多次在國際仲裁案件中出庭辯護，或擔任首席、當事人指定或獨任仲裁員。HKIAC 榮譽主席 Neil Kaplan CBE QC SBS 先生稱“Matt has spent his career in arbitration seeing both sides of the table and is uniquely placed to take HKIAC to an even higher level. I have known Matt for many years and I am supremely confident that he will make an excellent Chair. He has my congratulations and continued support”。

HKIAC 另一位榮譽主席 Michael Moser 博士補充道 “I am delighted that Matt has agreed to serve as the next Chair of the HKIAC. Matt is a long-standing member of the HKIAC Council and he spear-headed the revision of the HKIAC Rules in his capacity as head of the drafting committee. His diligence, enthusiasm and high standing in the international arbitration community are assets that will no doubt serve us well. I am confident that with Matt’s hands on the tiller, the Centre will maintain and enhance its position as a premier arbitral institution”。Lalive 律師事務所合夥人 Domitille Baizeau 女士贊同 Moser 博士的說法：“Matt is the perfect candidate for this position. Not only does he have an incredible intellect, he is also very down-to-earth and open-minded, hence also his deep understanding of Asian cultures. The HKIAC is lucky to have him take the lead of the organization”。

HKIAC 秘書長 Sarah Grimmer 女士非常期待與 Gearing 先生共事，她說 “I am excited by the prospect of working with Matt over coming years. His legal skills are renowned the world over. He is an eminent presence in Hong Kong and has made a critical contribution to HKIAC’s success to date. It is an honour and will be a pleasure to help write the next chapter in HKIAC’s success story with him”。

在 Gearing 先生當選的同時，HKIAC 理事會還添加了四名新的成員。他們是 HKIAC 前任秘書長、Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom 亞太區法律顧問鮑其安女士；Herbert Smith Freehills 外國法律顧問 Briana Young 女士；專職海事和商事仲裁員莫世傑先生；以及德輔大律師事務所 Anthony Houghton SC 先生。Kaplan 先生對此表示：“I am delighted that HKIAC has added new blood to its Council. Each brings a different background and experience to Council which will be of great value. ”鄭主席也對新理事會成員表示歡迎，她說 “they will bring a new dimension and perspective to the strong, steady and sustainable growth of HKIAC”。
