NEWS ALERT
Appointment of Professor Anton V. Asoskov to the HKIAC Council

The Hong Kong International Arbitration Center ("HKIAC") is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Anton V. Asoskov to the HKIAC Council upon the recommendation of HKIAC's Nominations Committee, for a six-year term.

Prof. Asoskov is a Doctor of Law, Professor of the Civil Law Department at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Professor of the International Private Law Department at the Russian School of Private Law. He has acted as an arbitrator in approximately 100 international arbitrations under all major institutional rules and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. He is a member of the Russian Council for the Development of Arbitration and a member of the Presidium and head of the Nominating Committee for Corporate Disputes of International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

HKIAC also recently added a Russian national and lawyer, Ms. Victoria Khandrimaylo, to its arbitration team. Ms. Khandrimaylo previously worked as an associate at a leading international law firm in Moscow, practicing in the areas of arbitration, corporate and real estate transactions. She completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in law at the Moscow State University of International Relations and obtained an LL.M. degree from the International Dispute Settlement MIDS programme in Geneva.

The appointments of a prominent Russian scholar and arbitrator to HKIAC's Council and a Russian lawyer to HKIAC's permanent staff are timely developments following HKIAC's obtaining permission to function as a permanent arbitral institution ("PAI") under Russian law in April 2019.

Russian parties frequently appear in HKIAC's cases. With growing economic activity between Russian and Asian parties, HKIAC is emerging as a preferred institution for disputes involving Russian parties. The HKIAC Administered Arbitration Rules are available in the Russian language and more than 35 Russian-speaking arbitrators are listed on HKIAC's various panels of arbitrators. HKIAC operates primarily from a jurisdiction that has not imposed sanctions against Russian entities and Hong Kong does not require visas for Russian visitors. With its status as a PAI under Russian law, HKIAC can provide its dispute resolution services to a broad range of Russia-related disputes in accordance with Russian law.

HKIAC's Russian-related activities have been growing in recent years. HKIAC has concluded cooperation agreements with the Russian Arbitration Association, the Russian Arbitration Center, Roscongress Foundation, and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (from 10 October 2019). Over the past six years HKIAC organised and participated in more than twenty-five conferences and seminars on dispute resolution in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Vladivostok.
