HKIAC successfully hosted the HK Practice Moot for the 10th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court. The HK Practice Moot is the only Asian practice moot for the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot, providing teams in the Asia-Pacific region experience in the practice of investment arbitration in simulated arbitration hearings.
This year, it received six enthusiastic law students from Peking University and University of International Business and Economics. HKIAC invited six arbitration experts to act as arbitrators and gave students thorough feedbacks afterwards.
The students got an opportunity to get a tour of Herbert Smith Freehills and received practical career tips.
HKIAC is also pleased to introduce the "HKIAC Capacity Building Scholarship (HKCBS)" this year, a new initiative to promote the development of investment arbitration in Asia and to also build the next generation of arbitrators. The aim of the scholarship is to provide students from developing jurisdictions within Asia (specifically Belt and Road countries) a unique opportunity to enhance knowledge of international arbitration and international investment arbitration through a scholarship funded placements at HKIAC and a leading law firm in HK.
A maximum of 2 scholarships will be awarded each year to selected students who have participated in the HK Practice Moot.
Jiang Shan (Helen), now a graduate of Peking University School of Transnational Law, was awarded the HKCBS and started her internship with the HKIAC from late May, where she engages with a variety of work, including managing arbitration cases, participating in academic seminars, researching issues at the forefront of arbitration development in Asia, among others. From late June, she will commence her internship placement at CMS.
